Enter how many minutes a day you spend on social apps. See how many reps it would take to earn that time by moving first. Numbers below use the exchange rates built into RepUnlock.
Reps are rounded up. A partial set earns a proportional share of the minutes.
| Exercise | Goal | Earns |
|---|---|---|
| Squat | 15 reps | 10 min |
| Push-up | 10 reps | 10 min |
| Plank | 30 seconds | 5 min |
Most people do not decide to scroll for an hour. They open an app for a second, and the next thing they know it is dinner. The choice happens in a moment, and in that moment the easiest option is to keep going.
A trade you set in advance changes that moment. Instead of asking "should I stop?", the question becomes "am I willing to do 15 squats for 10 more minutes?" That is a concrete, small question. Some days the answer is yes, and you get a little movement. Some days the answer is no, and you skip the scroll. Either way you picked it on purpose.
The numbers in the calculator are simple on purpose. Squats pay 10 minutes for 15 reps, push-ups pay 10 minutes for 10 reps, and a plank pays 5 minutes for 30 seconds. If you only manage part of a set, the minutes shrink in proportion. You can see exactly what each minute costs, so there is nothing to argue with yourself about.
A good way to use the calculator is to start with your real number, not your ideal one. Check your phone's screen time page, enter the minutes you actually spend, and see what the daily total looks like. If 45 squats feels like too much, that is useful information too. You can start by locking one app, or earn only part of your usual time, and adjust from there.
It also makes the cost visible. Ten minutes of scrolling is easy to forget. Fifteen squats are not. Seeing the price next to the minutes can help you notice which apps are worth it to you and which are just habit. This is a habit tool, not a promise of any result, and what you get from it depends on you.
This works with nothing but a phone timer. The hard part is following your own rules every time, which is where an app can help.
Exercise in a clear space and stop if you feel pain or dizziness.
RepUnlock is an Android app that locks the apps you choose. When you open one, it shows how many reps you need. Do the squats in front of your phone's camera, the phone counts them, and the minutes you earn unlock the app. When the minutes run out, the app locks again.
The camera video is analyzed on your phone and is not saved or sent anywhere. Squats are free to use with one locked app. Pro adds push-ups, plank, more locked apps and more buddies. You can also pair with a friend and see each other's reps for the day.
In RepUnlock, 15 squats earn 10 minutes of access to your locked apps. That is 1.5 squats per minute, so a 30 minute daily habit is 45 squats.
No. Use a timer and the three rules above: decide the rate in advance, do the reps before you open the app, and stop when the minutes are up. An app only makes the rules harder to skip.
Squats, push-ups and a timed plank, counted by the phone camera. Squats are included in the free version. Push-ups and plank need Pro.
No. Pose detection runs on the phone. The video is not saved and not sent anywhere.
